The scribes were condemned by Jesus because they were hypocritical and focused on outward appearances rather than genuine faith and righteousness. They were more concerned with their own status and recognition than with serving God and helping others. Jesus criticized them for their pride, greed, and lack of compassion, and warned the people to be wary of their teachings. True serenity involves a sense of inner peace and contentment, while indifference may lead to a disconnect from emotions and relationships. **
